Looms are the structures that hold warp strands taut for weaving and knotting rugs. They can be in various configurations: vertical, horizontal, fixed or mobile, but one thing is sure : Moroccan wooden Looms have souls and hold the power to gather the ladies of the tribe around them.
Enchanted by the gracious motions of the loom’s pedals going up and down, and by the sound of the shuttle moving back and forth – paired with sweet labor chants, the female artisans weave and knot rugs of various shapes, sizes, and meaningful symbols. The prettiest natural dyes are picked (such as rose, saffron, marigold and indigo amongst many others!), with a final touch of embroidered panels and sequined embellishments.

The idea behind Moroccan Looms is simple: presenting and retailing authentic tribal rugs online must profit the real owners of those treasures; the women who spend months weaving them. That is why our virtual women’s cooperative acts as a portal between female weavers in rural Morocco and the tasteful clients who are interested in purchasing their exquisite and unique textiles. The fair prices help sustain the female artisans; as many women depend on weaving as their main source of income.
We offer you a large selection of both vintage and newly weaved Moroccan rugs. Both are authentic and of premium quality, but if you are looking for a deeper cultural immersion, a vintage piece might be the right choice for you. It’s a tradition for brides to weave their own wedding blankets ‘Handiras’ and their own Beni Ourain Rugs before the wedding ceremony; these pieces are preserved through the generations to become powerfully antique: extra special.
